Today’s catch are 2 small large mouth.
Broke off a Third as I attempted to hoist it over the gunwale with 12 lbs stren. Stupid!
The one that broke off was as big as a whale! - Now if that’s not a fisherman’s tale
Yeah Bob. That's why the rules are it's only a fish story if there's no pictures. 😁😁😁😁. Just yanking yer chain.
What happened to my pix? I showed my 2 small largies!

Nice catch Bob, but those look like Smallmouth to me.
Nope. They were definitely large mouths. I believe SML has 3 or 4 largemouth species and now colors are getting unusual

I was always taught a largemouths jaw went past their eye . Sorry if I'm wrong.
I could be wrong. I will ask a local at some point. Either way. I caught. I released. Everyone happy!

ABSOLUTELY Bob! Once again congratulations on a great day of catching.

Small mouth color and mouth shape.I would be shocked if it would be a largemouth. Totally wrong markings. Check out what Bassmatter's two different species look like as a good example.
MAS fish
After further investigation and without talking to a local angler, I believe I caught an small mouth and an large mouth.
Well.....the two in the pics you posted are both smallmouths, no doubt about it. Experience will help, but a pictorial chart of various species in your area, usually included in your state's regulations booklet, will further your identification ability.
Neither of the two you posted have the distinctive dark lateral line, nor do they have LARGE MOUTHS, the obvious true ID factor.... uniformly (entire fish, rather than dark back, light belly of a LMB) mottled colorization, as well..... sorry, they're smallies.
I just realized I posted 2 pix of the same fish. Here is the second fish.
Yes, first was smaller. I believe the second was a large mouth.

You are correct Bob, that explains the confusion.
