Can anyone tell me what the temp. is on Castle Rock Lake.

Hope to take a` boat ride next week out on the lake. Just a ride around, get our dog use to the idea of riding in our fishing boat and find out if I can get in and out of the boat without help since my husband will have to deal with launching and unlaunching the boat. We have a 14 ft. aluminum boat. We hope we will be able to get it out on the lake. Suppose to be some rough weather the first part of the week, so have to see.
Any luck fishing on Castle rock this weekend?
Going to give a try off shore at Buckhorn Sunday sometime if weather allows it.
Wishing everyone well.

Can't help you out Leah, too far away. But I sure do wish you well and hope that all works out for you and that your dog loves the adventure. Be safe. And post some pictures?

Castle Rock Lake is a flowage on the Wisconsin River. From the upper reaches of the lake to the dam I would expect a great difference in temps. I would also not be surprised by a change between now and next week. Many depth finders can show the temperature. If you don't have that you can buy a fishing thermometer for the end of a fishing line.

Just wanted to tell you what we did when our black lab was in the boat with us. bring a bigger jug of tap water for the dog. try to keep it cool and a dish to put it in. ice cubes too if you can. our dog lived the cool water. sometimes it gets really hot in the boat, no shade. we also would make a "tent" with a really light density body wrap or towel and lay it across two seats and let her lay on a boat cushion or two. if it got about 80 or above she would stay home. Dark colored dogs no matter the size get hot. she was allowed to get wet prior to our trip sometimes too. She loved the water. adopted her at 2.5 years old. her first time out with me, we were motoring out to the fishing spot. she saw some ducks or geese and jumped out if the dang boat. so I had to stop and circle back to get her. well I realize she's wet and slippery and 90+ lbs. so I had to grab her collar and some skin above her back legs and lift. point is if your dog does go for a swim intended or otherwise think about how you're gonna get them out. they have swim up pads for dogs for bigger boats and Duck dogs. or a life jacket with a "suit-case" style handle on it. those are nice. or keep a leash on the pup. loop the leash under the back legs and tummy area and connected to the collar. that last one is worst case. you could damage the neck if done too hard or just in general. beats drowning.....or stay close to shore and if it jumps in follow/ coach it in to shore. keep treats in a zip lock bag. use praise as she looks and smells but doesn't act. I would stand on the leash or at least put it under foot if she stood up. once she got her "smelling" out of the way she would just lay down and relax. she was a great dog for the last 12 years we had her. calmed down a lot after she knew what we wanted and was very smart. miss her. had to put her down 2 years ago. About 3 months before our son was born...she loved kids too. F$^_ Cancer!

I will let you know how it goes when we take her out. She does like the water, so am guessing she may think she can go for swims. I like the idea of a safety vest only to get her in and out of the boat, and as for color, she is a Dashhound crossed with a Jack Russell and her color is mostly white with some light brown on her. Her skin is pink so we have to watch that she does not get sunburned. We are thinking about going out in the evening so it will not be so hot, or so we hope. Will keep you posted on how it all goes. Wishing you well.

Doxy and Jack Russell. She must be a handful. Those two breeds can get themselves into some serious mischief.

She is from texas and really quit a lazy dog. Quiet except when we are out for a walk and she things she needs to protect us, or if people come to the house, even if she has met the family, It has been a year almost since we adopted her. Very territorial, we try to expose her to people as Ralph and I are people oriented. It is taking awhile. Do not know the history of how or why she was either given or got away from her first owners. But she has learned a great deal about manners and such from someone.
Heading out for the afternoon. Have a good one.
