Snagging Asian Carp

I am interested in trying my luck snagging Asian Carp. I am reasonably close to Peoria, Il and Lakes Ken and Barkley. Additional locations around Indiana/Illinois/Ky would be appreciated.

I have a boat and sonar and plan to locate the fish to reduce non-carp fish. I would fish from the bank, but do not wish to snag non-carp species.

I would appreciate advice on rods/reels and hooks/sinkers that can be used for snagging.

Take a noisy boat out into the lake, and wait for them to jump into it.

No way to target just those, however, they seem to be the only species that jumps due to the motor. Not sure if there are any regs, but get a big, strong landing net, wear a helmet and have fun. I believe the IL River is full of them.

Doesn’t even have to be noisy. Just running down the waterway. Bring a few nets too.

i hope you'd get a floatilla of others on the water and catch, hook, snag or just net all of these damn fish...theres no limit on an invasive species and i like how you dont want to hurt any "good" fishies out there. Good luck.

I have seen videos of those Asian carp jumping willy nilly due to the sound of an outboard. I wondered what would be wrong in using a 1 ga. shotgun with birdshot?

Other than being quite close, you could get hit by flying carp, other than that hazard, sounds like you could use up a box of two of shells quickly and rid the waters of 40 or 50 unwanted carp. Just Sayin...RJS

what do you think would happen if you allowed guys in boats with shotguns to shoot fish that jump? Be sorta like skeet shooting live targets. A new olympic sport ?

I see little difference in that and the White Wing dove seasons in the Lower Rio Grande Valley in Texas. Oil companies, service companies, and such lease out fields of standing grain that attrat the doves, and for the two weekend season it is war. Each good customer is given a box of shells and a six pack of beer and told if you run out, just yell for more. I have been hit many times by falling shot. This is shot fired skyward. I doubt that bird shot would travel m ore than 40 or 50 yards.

It was always wise to wear a hat and shatter proof sun glasses. Just Sayin....RJS

You got it right I’ve had em jump in 3 times on Barkley! About a month ago I had a big one jump in the boat and it hit my gf while she was asleep with nothing running but maybe the trolling motor . It startled the hell out of both of us! I hope the fish people can get them things under control in the future. I’m going back the first week of June and hopefully it won’t happen again! Hell I got a bad heart already

They’re down here also and are here to stay as with all the other invasive species. Start eating them as there are numerous recipes online for them.

I hope things don’t get so bad that I would consider eating one of those things! You’re right about they here to stay? Our fish and wildlife are trying very hard to control them but they are overwhelmed and I’m sure some of our gamefish will suffer. Only good thing is the bow fishing folks are having a great time with em!

Well with the price of beef and chicken rising, might be time. Haven’t tried them yet but would. You know we eat just about anything down here if it doesn’t eat us first. 😁😁😁

I used to fish small lake and would see them in schools and would throw a jig with hook bent around and throw over them and drag through them and jank when got close to them then hold on for the ride
