I’m sure everyone is experiencing the high cost of lumber right now. $70.00 for a sheet of 3/4” plywood in my neck of the woods. I just went to Wyoming to replace a section of floor and reset the toilet in my Mom’s house. One 2x10, 8 feet long, 1/2 sheet of 5/8’ plywood, a box of screws and a tube of liquid nails. $137.00 at Home Depot😲. The area I live in has CCRs that “require” my exterior shell be finished in 18 months from start of construction. I built a transparent air house cuz lumber prices are too high. Project complete😂

It has totally ruined people trying to build or even buy a house. The lumber prices has forced people they were going to build into buying what is already built along with low interest rates having more buyers looking for the few houses that are out there. It has created biding wars above the asking price of the house and above what the house is worth.

You can blame the Doctor. Wuflu shutdowns hit the lumber industry hard.

We just remodeled our kitchen. Signed with the cabinet maker in December. Glad we did as the first week of January lumber tripled. That would have doubled the project cost and forced us to cancel.
At the end of the project, one of the finish electricians told me a 3,000sq ft house he was wiring had the lumber cost raise 50K.
The final inspector told me his Son put his 850sq ft ranch house on the market for 210K (outrageous for this house). The first bid came in at 249K, fell through due to financing and sold 3 days later for 325K. That alone will screw all the neighbor’s property values around him for taxes. Some are really taking advantage of the Pandemic.

I recently paid $3,600 for all the lumber to build a 12’x20’ deck. Price is 3 times what it was a year ago. They say it isn’t a mill issue they have and are producing plenty. It’s a middle man (shipping issue) can’t get anyone to deliver supposedly. I think it’s price control, taking advantage of the COVID to gouge price!!

Just pay the charges and be proud and happy. Plenty of us are wishing we owed some money for that timber.

I was watching a special, The lumber mills are the main reason prices went up. The cost and the number of people getting trees to the mills had not changed. The mills cut back on staff, which has lead to a shortage of lumber. And then the mills are sitting on the lumber after it has been cut.
If I was in the New York markets, and has stocks in this companies I would have tripled my money.

I saw that just two days ago. A local saw mill had 5 rows of truck length logs close to 100 yards long (guessing from the road). Mill wasn’t running but log truck were hauling logs in. We can buy a 2x4 around here without taking out a second mortgage. $2.00/lineal foot for an 8 footer. They were $2.00/board last year at Home Depot. Went up 800% in a year for dimensional lumber. 😲

It’s insane, replacing the deck on my little 14 foot v hull. Bought two sheets of pressure treated 1/2 inch plywood at $63 per sheet, that’s nuts.

You realize the copper sulfate in the pressure treated will cause corrosion of the aluminum due to galvanic reaction of dissimilar metals! Hope you haven’t installed it and can return it.
