What’s the best weight for a beginner trout fly fisher?
I have a little bit of experience and I preferably wanted to order a Wade rod.

a 5 weight is good for most trout fishing. If you’re going to be fishing in smaller streams and trout the are in the 20’ or smaller category I think a 3 or 4 weight is more fun.

I second what Fish4fun stated. I have 4, 5, and 6 weight rods and for trout would go with the 4 of 5 weight. Mine are 9' long.

I too, think a 5wt or 6wt would be a good choice. I have caught tiny trout and 6+lb steelhead on a 6wt, both fun and doable. Obviously, I would prefer my 2wt or 3wt for stream 'bows or brookies and my 8wt for the steelhead, but I also like to challenge myself by making the gear I have work on whatever takes my fly. Good luck !

A 9ft. 5wt. is the most popular fly rod sold. That would be my choice.
There must be a reason for it.
