My target species are panfish and largemouth bass. Ocassionally a smaller catfish or carp(urban environment no 6+ pound fish) I want a spinning reel. The ones I'm currently looking at are the Shimano IX, kastking centron/summer, and the piscifun flame. I plan to use it on a Bass Pro Shops Classic 200 6'6 medium rod with 8lbs mono if you could link the products you recommend that be amazing. Edit I've been looking at Lew's reels too

I have several Pflueger "Trion" reels of various sizes. Excellent.... for $39.95 most everywhere.

If you're just getting started, I'd go with Shimano's less expensive models. I've been using Shimano bait casting and spinning reels for over forty years with no complaints - but only one of mine cost less than $75.

Truth is, you'll have to pay least $65 for anything that's going to be fairly reliable with decent performance. If Walmart sells a cheaper reel in a plastic "bubble box", don't count on it performing very well or lasting very long.

go to marketplace, or craigs list and purchase a good used reel in your price range. I'm not sure a new good reel for 40 dollars even exist

Ah come on! I buy Zebco 33's at WalMart for up to $24.95. I use them for both salt and fresh water. With proper care, they'll last a good number of years.

I'm with Joemac 100%: gonna be in Colorado for the next 8 months or so, left my tackle in Florida. Found a garage sale over the weekend and fell into a pair of Zebco combinations (Chinese Zebco rods equipped with American-made "33`s"'.
Like new, coated in cobwebs and years of dust! I spent less than an hour Sunday afternoon, taking them apart, discarding half the 10lb line and replacing with 8lb fluocarbon on each reel, relubing, cleaning, tying several new dropdown rigs (for later), and smiling all the rest of the evening at my great find! Especially after checking my local Colorado Springs Wal-Mart price for a Zebco 33 combination at $25 each and Amazon at the same, Plus Shipping! Now my biggest concern is buying the out- of- state fishing license for Colorado; I'm a 76 years old vet, and it's gonna cost me $100 to take my two grandkids fishing while their dad's in North Korea till next February. 😲 Oh yes, I miss Florida Now ⛱.....☘
