Took my granddaughter carp fishing. Took some birds eye frozen corn out and some worms. They weren’t biting on the worms but they were on the corn. I through out several hands of corn then baited up with corn and casted out. Fished on the bottom and she caught two about 4-5 pounds each. She wanted her picture take and I told her only if she holds them. This was the first time she ever held a fish, she did good.she couldn’t believe how hard they fought. Put them back in to grow bigger.

Thanks OJ. I wished I would have videoed her catching the first one. I could of wrote a book of laughs on getting her to hold that fish. I rarely fish for carp but they were busting water all over the place and do put up a really good fight. I was hoping she would catch one of the bigger ones though. I saw one that was pushing 3 foot in length. I will get her on some flatheads next time out.

Why to go, Rb. Enjoy those grandkids. They grow up so fast. I'm glad you took my advice on the corn.

Thanks for your comments, I appreciate them. My granddaughter will be graduating from Emporia State here in Kansas next year and is a straight A student. Scholarships and her hard work is paying off, she will owe nothing when she graduates. 3 courses in 6 weeks this summer and it’s hard to get time to take her fishing.

Going to try that corn trick myself tomorrow Rut. Not really into C & R but anything right now to get that skunk off my tail.

Grew up in Emporia, sweet little prairie town. We moved to K.C. just before my 16th birthday in '69....they still called the "higher education place"... KSTC (Kansas State Teachers College) at the time. Glad they got around to re-naming it.... wasn't just teachers that they graduated, at all.... confused a young me, when I would hear of an engineer or doctor getting an undergrad degree, and NOT becoming a teacher. Good job on her graduating without debt, hard to do these days .

Guy that taught me the ropes in the army in Germany was from Emporia. Name was Jim Lady. He couldn't wait to get back home to count cars going by 😄

That’s awesome - great pic, Rut! Your granddaughter is going to have a sweet and funny memory from this day. I bet it was a hoot, getting her to hold that fish. Looks like she mastered it. 😁

Betts you’re absolutely right about that. She had a hard time getting past the slime and I was laughing j butt off and of course them there carp wanted no part of holding still which made it more of a challenge for her to hang on to them. Me and Mrs Rutinbuck was going out to Menards this afternoon but before we got around to leaving she calls and asks “when are we going fishing again, can we go this afternoon?”. Mrs Rutinbuck tells me to go on and take her fishing. I had just unloaded the fishing gear from the day before, so had to put everything back in the truck. I get over there and she says “did ya get my text?”. I said nope. She said her brother wanted me to bring his fishing pole, he wanted to go fishing with us. I had brought an extra rod so I had him covered. We caugh no qaa was,, fish today
