My first bucket list fishing trip is in the book! It didn't turn out like I'd dreamed. I flew my son, daughter and my 2 grand childern from Tampa Fl to Wannatchee Wa for opening day for rainbow trout. The flights went well. Our cabins were acceptable but the fishing was poor. The first day of fishing my son and I trolled most of the day and not 1 hit. I went to the office / store and bought a dozen worms so the second day my son and I changed to bank fishing with worms. After about 4 hours my son finally got one. I was more excited than he. As soon as he got it unhooked took 3 pictures were taken and I dispatched. Scraped the scales off, deheaded and wrapped it foil (open ended) put the chip box already ready with wet apple chips on the charcoal and started smoking it. I should have used a pat of butter so the skin didn't stick so much. Anyway the fish was delicious. That was my sons first trout. The last day of fishing was like the first. ZERO! The sites were spectacular and didn't remember anything from 50 + years ago. So I had to come back to Fl to catch a fish.

That bonnet head gladly went back in the water wench he came. I've never tried eating a bonnet head as every other shark I've tried tasted , tasted like a used diaper smells like. It did get the blood pumping. He made a mess out of my other line tho by swimming in circles on his way in. I was thinking the way he was going I had a nice drum on. Gordon how do you do them so they taste good?

I would be interested to hear this, Gordon. I have tried to eat them a few times and it didn't work. But they weren't cleaned as soon as I caught them either. I have heard that you have to do that.
Sharks: Bleed, clean and remove skin (fillet and skin ok) as soon as caught. Remove and discard all dark meat. Then place white meat on ice (lots of ice). Even dogfish are quite eatable that way, although the texture is weird. Any dark meat will taste of ammonia. That ammonia taste will leach into the white meat if not cleaned immediately. I can not say if that puts an end to the fish tasting like pee or used diapers, as I have never tried a comparison test. There is a fair bit of waist on smaller sharks and a bit of work to clean, But that is true on most smaller fish. Give it a try. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Gordon, Sorry for piping in with my method of prepping, before you had a chance to respond. But I know I would forget if I did not do it now.

Sorry your first bucket list fishing didn’t go well but you can’t beat watching your son land that trout and then eating it together. I dunno about that Hammerhead. I didn’t know there were in fresh water.🤷🏻♂️

I’ve had bonnet head soaked in milk and ice then sautéed it in skillet. Caught em in bulls bay Charleston SC that area seems to be a nursery area. Go back to Charleston couple times for fishing you can keep 1 a day per person any size usually around 20lb range good runners.
