Both are solid in the price point.
I have both reels. The only difference is the Pflueger has an anti-reverse switch and the Shimano no longer does.
If you don't "back reel" on big fish, it doesn't make a difference, both have similar drag capacities.
This is kind of a Chevy vs. Ford thing, but honestly, both are solid reels.
If not concerned about having a switch to "back reel", then I would recommend the Sedona, but I lean towards Shimano, but I do have 3 Pflueger reels (President XT, Purist, and Supreme) and like all of them.
Weight and gear ratio might be a consideration between the two.
When in doubt, you can always just pick them based on color!!!
I am in the same position with Pflueger and the Mitchell. People seem to like the Pflueger better, I don’t think Mitchell is as popular. I bought several Piscifun Viper X reels (the 500 and 1000). I liked them, smooth, light and inexpensive, but no anti-reverse.
Like most things it becomes a personal preference.
I have both! Great reels for the price! That said, I have 3 Sedona’s and 1 Presidente for a reason.... that being the Sedona is simply a workhorse of reel! Smooth, great drag and lasts forever! One of my Sedona’s is 12 years old and I’ve used it in fresh and saltwater! Morel of the story... the Sedona wins by far!
Talk about workhorse, I have Mitchell 308s and 408s that are older than most of you. Freshwater and saltwater, bass and trout, even light saltwater. They still work great.

Im a die hard Shimano guy. That being said, I dont think the lower priced Shimano offerings are all that special. it isn't until you get to the Ultegra range and up that they start to outshine the competition.
Ive never heard a bad word spoken about the Pflueger President. my opinion the gold standard for an affordable reel
I have my Grandfather's
MITCHELL 300 AND IT, STILL WORKING AND I'M 69YRS YOUNG.
GOOD FISHING TO 🎣 ALL
AND SAFE TRIPS ON THE WATER
ANDY BASSMAN
I have both reels and feel the Pflueger is more durable. I’d consider the Diawa Regal LT. It also runs 59$ at Bass pro. I like it better than the other two.
