New fisher here. Just bought a ugly stik gx2 and a pflueger president xt30. I put 30# kastking braided line on it and can only cast roughly 17 yards? Is this normal or should I go down on my braid lbs?

Seems like your lures are awfully light, or your line is not threaded through the guides properly?
Doesn’t sound normal.
You may want to try 15# braid.
What do you primarily fish for?
Being he stated he is a new fisherman it could be something as simple as the break 🙏😜 might want to try pushing the release on your reel and see if your lure moves or not before checking all the other stuff
Also forgot to mention that I have the same setup with the same #test line and with half oz lures don’t have any problem making long casts again check everything break line twist through guides lure weight all the above
Spinning or baitcaster ? .. Pflueger makes both with that moniker.
Obviously, if it's a spinning reel....no BRAKE involved, so can't be the prob, might need to tie off and "un-spool" way past that "17 yd" point and crank back on with even tension to eliminate "binding from being buried" due to "soft loose spots".
Baitcaster ? Not in my bailiwick, sorry... pretty much hate 'em..... for SO very many reasons..... like "brakes" to have to fiddle with, for example......lol.
The reel he's describing doesnt look like its made to hold 30lb braid , if im not mistaken it can hold 10 or 12lb braid ,the president xt30 is a spinning reel ,but my wife always tells me how many times I've been wrong before!! Check the Specs for you reel Kackers.
If you have a Pflueger President XT30 that is a spinning reel and you should be able to throw it a lot further than that something is wrong😒
