Regarding that 'fisherman vs. bear'
scenario - I'm guessing that if it
came down to 'beating feet', the younger fisherman may have a
distinct advantage - we old codgers don't run so well (or fast) anymore !

I've seen two relevant videos pertaining to bears/fishing, but
can't find way to post them !

The first was a funny commercial where a guy tries to steal a bear's salmon and they get into a fight (with BOTH of them using martial arts) -
while they're fighting, the fisherman kicks the bear in the 'nads and absconds with his fish while the
bear is doubled over in pain !

The second was a video where
a guy is sitting in a lawn chair along
the side of a river watching others
fish ! He hears a noise behind him
and sees a grizzly settle himself
down alongside him on the grass
not 10 feet away, observe the
activities for five minutes, then
mosey along without bothering
the guy or anyone else !

At the end of THAT video, I'd be amazed if that guy wasn't carrying
a 'load' in his shorts !
