How is the fishing for trout, reds, flounders
Don't know, but I have relatives outside Houston and they tell me the good inshore fishing is from Rockport south

Port Aransas has good fishing.
If you are up to wade fishing, the Boliver pocket is usually good for school trout. You may either use shrimp, or artificails. I have limited out there more than once using top water lures. I liked the Heddon bone colored top water, I think they think it is a mullet.
The Boliver Pocket is bound by the beach, the East Galveston Jetty. Usually fishermen wade out to a depth of between thigh to waist deep water. Always scoot your feet, always, or you are likely to step on a sting ray and that means a trip to the emergency room. Just Sayin...RJS
I fished down there for a while when I lived in TX. and didn't catch anything but hard heads and croakers. But since leaving that area I have watched some YouTube videos of Thresher fishing and he does real well in Port Aransas, Corpus area. I didn't know that lures could be effective I was taught by locals in Galveston to use shrimp dead or alive and mostly fished off the small jetty's there..
johnlmlac: Well, there are certainly a lot of hardheads and crokers in Galveston bay area, for sure. If you are ever back, I suggest trying your luck at wading in the Boliver Pocket. That is an area of the Gulf bordered by the Boliver beach, and the East Galveston Jetty.
I don't klow what you mean by the small Jetty. There is the Seawall and the Galveston Jetties which are almost a mile long, extending well out into the Gulf. The east jetty had a gap for small boats about 1/2 way out. The water is reasonably shallow, not more than waist deep for perhaps 1/4 mile or more, so you have a lot of room
There often a lot of bait in this area so there are also a lot of fish after the bait. I have limited out on trout more trhan once there.
Only thing to be careful of is sting rays. You always want to scoot your feet along. And if you have them wear leggins, like snake protectors, so in case you forgetr and step on a ray, it will not pierce your leg and send you to the emergency room. That would be one painful experience. Just Sayin...RJS
Sting rays don't worry me as much as sharks. Waist deep water is more than enough to hold a big Bull shark
There were small jetty's that didn't go out that far. I think the biggest one used to have a pier on the end that got blown away after Ike. I new a guy in Tx. that liked to fish were you are taking about, but I have never tried wading out. I knew another guy that fished a lot and caught lots of reds but I never got the chance to go fishing with him.
