Here in Tennessee I've been catching them toward the backs of major creek arms where smaller pockets and creeks run in. Follow the old channels back into the creeks and pockets, somewhere in those old channels you'll find Crappie. They will probably be suspended somewhere along the drop off into the old creek/pocket channels. They will use these deeper channels to move shallow for the spawn then move back out to deeper water after the spawn. If you can find wood, fallen trees or brush piles your chances will increase. Crappie are suspending fish so keep adjusting your depth till you find where they're holding then fish that depth. Also if you locate them with electronics fish just above them just a little, they can't see beneath them without moving their bodies. Hope this helps some and you catch a bunch.
