Just wondering about prospects for the opener this weekend. Are there any Wisconsin fishermen out there? I'm after crappies and walleye!

With the crazy weather patterns we’ve had, if I get out...I will try the outside weed edges for suspended fish. The walleyes should be recovering from the spawn and should want to eat. The crappies should be staging, but may be suspended, deep.

Thanks! Yes,out weather has been crazy. A few weeks ago I caught 6 very nice crappies shallow. Since then nada. That was shore fishing. Unfortunately, they all had eggs. Will have the boat out this weekend. I'll take your advice. Have a good opener!

Good evening, Greg, Welcome to the Fourm. Not a lot of Badgers out there, and the ones that are, are pretty quiet, especially when it comes to catching walleyes. It's a Midwestern thing. OJ knows what he is talking about, listen to him. Where are you fishing?

My boat is in storage in River Falls (too bad I'm not much of a trout guy). I know a few lakes North of Hudson and Baldwin. I like smaller, quieter lakes. I have not fished the St Croix yet, but have met some folks that do so will try that too this year. I have spent most of my adult years in Minnesota, Lake Minnetonka area, but have fished in many parts of the State. Red Lake is on my bucket list for 2021!

We have a planned trip to the Lake of the Woods in June. I have caught some wallies around the Peshtigo and Sturgeon Bay area, as well as the Hayword area. Red Wing had a short window this year, but a few caught some nice fish. I think somebody caught a 11.7#er out of there this Spring. It's over now. You might try the Reed's Landing, which used to be good. I met the Lindner Bros. there one Spring in the early '60s. Try the area just up into the St. Croix from the MN. side and the wing dams just South of Reed's. Good Luck!

Hey Greg...
Lots for good walleye, northern and pan fishing lakes here in the Hayward area. It's a bit of a drive for you but the fishing was good this past winter. I expect it will continue to be good. Good luck fishing.

Greg...
Hope I attached the correct file. Caught this nice brown trout close to Madeline Island on Lake Superior. It was a brutal 28 degrees below zero that day, but it was well worth the effort. Lake Superior is a great resource for trout as well as smallies and whitefish. Give it a try sometime. And the best of luck to you.
