That depends, quite a bit, on where your neighborhood is. I catch squawfish in 8” of water at night on the Columbia River. They’re after food there when the predator birds can’t see them. Many places with 4-5 feet of water hold fish. Just depends where.

Where are you located? I would say if your pond doesn’t freeze out in Winter, or get too hot in the Summer...there should be fish there.

As others have mentioned, it depends upon where the food fish are, and they will go into very shallow water at times. In the Gulf Coast, red fish or drum will go into water so shallow their dorsal fins will be out of the water. Just Sayin....RJS

if you lived in florida, most all of the lakes, and rivers are only 3 t0 7 ft. deep, so yes they are in shallow water.

As OJ said if its a pond it might freeze. I caught my largest pike in a creek off the lake in 2 feet of water. Then had to carry it back a mile and half to my parents cottage.

We have a shallow park pond. Probly 3 acres in size and about 4 ft deep
It’s got a good population of largemouth up to about 3 pounds
Tons of bluegill and some monster carp.

Fish it! Then you will have an answer to your question. The rivers I fish are only 4 to 6 feet deep.
