It was a true story of a night that I ended up catching a 7 lb 4 oz smallmouth and winning a tournament but that night I put a 3 pound small mouth in the live well and my partner took a look at in during the night and that fish jumped completely out of the live well and never touched anything but water it cleared the back deck of the boat by a couple feet. That fish must have been doing laps in the live well building up speed to jump out that far. But really it just shows how much power is in those fish tale to go from stop to go that fast.

I fish out of an old Bumble Bee bass boat, they were made right here in Tullahoma TN. the for runner of the Phoenix boats today. It's old but It's been garage kept and I've tried to take care of it. It has served me well and it's payed for long ago, so that's a good thing. I repowered it las year with Mercury 4 stroke 225 and I really like the way it runs with this new motor.

Wow a 225 on there!!!! I can imagine getting on plane is quick but don't you have a weight problem in the back?

A 7#4oz smallie is insane Ivey. Simply cannot imagine how that must have fought. Some very nice crappies in you pictures.

Plum I can top that one, we were fishing a tournament one night and while I was reeling in a jig I got hit right by the boat but didn't hook up. I just flipped the jig back out and let it fall back thru the area I got the hit, nothing. So I started reeling in the jig and as it broke the surface a big Smallmouth was following, it jumped right in my lap. Scared me to death. It hit the bottom of the boat just flopping, my partner got the net and threw it over it and said "did I what I think happen really just happen"? I told him "if you think that fish just jumped in the boat,,,Yes it happened." We put him in the live well and weighed him in that night, I figured I lured him into the boat so it counts.

It was an epic fight, I set the hook and it jumped, sounded like someone threw a big dog in the water. Then it ran right at me at wharp speed. under the boat it went the next jump was behind me on the other side of the boat. it jumped twice more and somehow I managed to work it around the trolling motor back on the side of the boat my rod was on and finally netted it after a couple of line burning runs going deep. That fish was my personal best Smallmouth and I caught it during a tournament so it was weighed on digital scales. After the weigh in we won the tournament, big fish pot plus a 1000 dollar bonus for a Smallmouth over 7 pounds.

No where in the definition of the word " lure " is the word " hooked " mentioned. Therfore, yes it counts.

That must have been epic. When i started getting into fishing almost daily, those that run right at me were the toughest to keep hooked without losing.

Good job. Given that pic is a little old i take it the $ 1k has been spent. And of course on bait, right?

Went out for a few hours yesterday and had a little luck. Started out casting a Fluke and got 3 Smallmouth to commit several came up and missed the bait but got a hook in three, one so mean I couldn't hold it long enough to get a photo, it hit the deck and flopped out of the boat but these two were released alive.

Then went looking for crappie got 4 two 10" and two big girls. had them for supper last night and they were tasty.

Very nice Ivey! Congrats on a good catch! Good luck and be safe...

Nice catch Ivey. Those little red eyed bastards are the devil’s spawn. Lol.
Great story about the gymnastic fish.

My biggest problem in the whole deal was finding the motor, 4 stroke Mercuries are or were hard to come by when I got mine. A local shop here in Winchester finally found one and did the install, everything went great. They even gave me a good price for a trade in on my old motor, a 250 Evinrude HO that's still setting in their window. It had spun a main shaft bearing in the lower unit but they still gave me 6 grand on it. From what I understand most motors are coupled with a boat and it's hard to find just a new motor. I've been told since then that Suzuki are a lot easier to find and their 4 strokes are bullet proof, have a friend with one on his boat and he's very happy with it and a much better warrenty.

Ivey, besides being huge, it is one of the prettiest smallies I’ve ever seen! Those dark brown vertical bars are very distinct.
