I'm a newer regular to the area and will probably get out next week for the first time this year. We caught a few walleye last year drifting then got into perch pretty well but all was mostly lucky guessing. I love to fish and basically fish for dinner. I used to fish inland lakes but we have a pollution problem so got a bigger boat for bigger water. Perch and walleye are great but I would like to get into crappies bluegills too, but don't know where to start. I'm sure they would be bigger on the big lakes, any suggestions on where to start would be appreciated. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Welcome to the Stage Paddy. They should be in prespawn up your way soon. They'll be moving up to shallow cover when the water warms up. Right now they're probably still fairly deep, but still around cover. Use your electronics to find the cover, and you should find the crappie. Good luck and Tight Lines.

Thanks, I plan on giving it a good shot.

Welcome to the stage Pappy some good advice has already been given 👍 the water is still pretty cold
If your on Erie near the mouth of the Detroit river head to the southwest corner of Gross Isle. Watch your fish finder and cruise about 100 ft off any boat docks. Work your way out and around the shoreline. When you see tightly packed group of fish. Your on em. The are either crappie or sunnys. Wax worms on a small jig. If your near Brest Bay on Erie head to the mouth of River Raisin. On the north side of the river look for 8 to 12 ft and search with your fish finder. Same technique. If yo go out a bit further and find 15 to 18 ft this is a great spot for perch. Use a crappie rig and emerald shiners. Be sure to anchor your boat if your looking for perch. Good luck to you have a great day and be safe on Erie. She’s a terrific body of water but be carful and watch the wind.

I'm actually a little south of those areas but they are all well within reach. You actually hit the nail on the head with your information and I will definitely try those areas. I have already learned some of the things about Lake Erie, the beauty and how ugly it can be when the wind kicks up from the wrong direction. Thanks for the information, I'll try to put it to good use. Have a good season and stay safe.
