Thanks for the support. I also had a Zebco 33. Loved it to death. When I went to the Zebco spinning rod and reel, I caught so many fish I thought it was the top of the world. Caught sooo... Many fish. I now pull that rig out and look at it and think about how much of a junky set up it is compared to the new technology.
And yeah, where and when did circle hooks start taking over???? Time and technology hmmm?

I only use them for trout which a seldom fish for anymore. Alot of areas are requiring them if you fish with live bait.

For fishing for Rockfish, Maryland require you to use a circle hook only when using bait. And it has to a non-offset hook. It has to lay perfectly flat with no canter left or right and the barb has to be pointing Straight Back to the shank not upward at all. The Depart of Nat Resources tell us to beware of circle hook knock-offs as they are looking and will bust you for it. Regular circle hooks are easy to find and the knock-offs still work great even better than the totally flat ones required. I could not find any in local stores and finally spent hours going through Amazon. The listing say one thing and picture shows something else. DNR doesn't care what the package says. More due diligence is needed. I guess it's a good thing. More and more states are protecting certain fish. Better this than shutting down fishing.

I just looked at Amazon and you are certainly right. Offset and non offset look exactly the same. I'm amazed because as you said it is a big deal in certain fisheries.

DNR definitely lays it in fishermen to know what's right n wrong. It's a good thing i feel. Guys would be gut hooking throw backs n they'd probably become bait. Regs can be s pain but w/o them fisheries would suffer. I've seen people keep everything they caught. I actually like octopus hooks. When i do get to go striper fishing we use topwater or swim jigs. 1st trip i was fishing for several hrs whe my buddy said md only allowed 2 trebles on lures. He has a place near coles point va. Lower Potomac. Water cops absolutely patrol that area 👍👍

Pix if you trout fish you may know how many regs on that. Fredrick n Washington co. have alot of specialty areas. Some barbless flyfishing only. Some you can use live or artificial till a certain time then only artificial. Some has age restrictions. It's a minefield 👍👍
