Descenders have been popular with deep salt water guides and boats for years and we know that they work very well if the angler works fast to get the fish back down to the original depth. Most fresh water anglers do not have boats that are equipped with these descenders, nor do most fresh water guides. I have no arguement that descenders are the proper way to go but the problem is not witnessed that often in fresh water to warrant having a descender on board.
Read all the posts and links, no fancy “equipped”, a $6.99 bent piece of wire with a sinker and a swivel
or I made my own, most F&W websites show you how. I use a old cheap short rod/reel that is just for that, super easy lower to the approx depth caught and reel up literally if you can use a fishing pole and fit one in your boat you can do this ANY water. If not able to lower a line into the water won’t have to worry about catching fish anyhow
