I buy golf-ball sized "baby reds" alot. And those little yellows, purples and reds in the "fancy bags" are super tasty.
Whatever happened to those huge 7"-10" long, 4"+ in diameter Russets my mom used to make "baked potato meals" out of ? Can't find them anywhere.
About 50 years ago, I had a job with a meat packing plant, delivering to restaurants. I had three fast-food stops where they made their own french fries right there, and had the spuds delivered in 100 pound gunny sacks. There's where the big ones go, to commercial buyers. Much more recently, I see really big russets in Smart and Final grocery stores - but again, they're gunny sacks full. I can't eat that many before they go bad.
