Anyone knows what type of fish have nests or beds on the shallow water. I see them on almost every pond in my area around the pond.

Looks like they dig a little hole, about 2 feet wide.

These fish are very scaredy. They take off as soon as I get a few feet close to them. Used to think they were Bass but they obviously aren't.

I kinda want to land them if it's legal to do so just to see how they fight. But I'm just curious what they are.

I'm in Florida BTW.

Hard to get a picture.

If they're in ponds they are probably panfish, bluegill, sunfish, whatever type you have in your area.

Panfish don't bed alone, hundreds will bed together in the same area, that's why it's so easy to catch 100 from that same area. It's Tilapia and they are vegetarians, but I have caught them on small crankbaits. Back when I bowfished I most likely stuck a few hundred. Smells and tastes like lake weeds.......farm raised is not much better

I knew they were in the canals, but how did they get in little ponds?

There is an invasive species of Armored Catfish in S Florida (I caught one in Lake O) that make nests & lay eggs near the shore. Not knowing what it was, we threw it back, & later found out we were supposed to kill it. It destroys pan fish....

Definitely Talapia. Sometimes they'll hit a lure or plastic worm but its rare. Usually if you hook them it will be a foul hooked fish.

Sounds like bluegill beds
Bass also bed in shallows. The beds look similar. Bluegill beds tend to be smaller.
To fish a bed , let’s say you are in 3 ft of water. Cast about 4 ft beyond where you think the bed is. What you see is an illusion to where the actual location is due to distortion caused by the water. Also your lure doesn’t sink straight down. But “pendulums “ back toward you.
Doing this will put your lure near the back edge of the bed. Then just inch it forward.

They are probably pan fish nests. They appear as yellow or white spots on the bottom. Cast a worm or a small minnow into the spot. Usually you can catch all of the fish you can eat, but don’t over fish it as it is the breeding ground for more fish.
