Bass fishing: Ned rig... spinning combo or finesse baitcaster?

Looking to add the ned rig to my arsenal for the upcoming season. I’ve got a number of 6.5 medium heavy fast action rods with some quality reels (Tatula). I’ve read that my current setups may be a bit much for the lighter action of the ned rig.

What do you use? Is a new spinning combo my best approach? Or should I be looking for a finesse baitcaster combo to get the job done? Or am I okay with my current gear?

Please share your thoughts. And share the gear you prefer as well. I’m open to anything that will get me a tight line. ✌️

My go to finesse baicaster is a Shimano Aldebaran on a GLoomis GLX 852 JWR.
Fantastic for ned rigs.
However , it’s the only baitcaster I have that is well suited to ned rigs.

On the other hand , nearly all my spinning reels are pretty compatable for ned rig fishing.

Unless you have a grand laying around for a GLX and Aldebaran ,
I’d go with a 7’ medium action spinning rod with extra fast taper.
Sensitivity is a big deal with ned rigs so you would be well served with a higher quality rod. St Croix Avid level comes to mind or something comparable minimum. With this level of sensitivity ; you will feel bites you would never know you were getting with a less sensitive rod.

I have a St Croix legend tournament 6/6 med light fast with a Shimano Stradic Ci4 1000 size that is an absolute blast for ned rigging

20 pound braid with 8 pound flouro leader works well . I like Seaguar smackdown and Seaguar abraz x.
High viz line is important for line watching. I prefer flash green.

Whatever you decide, you need to run a lighter drag than you would typically use because of the light wire hooks on ned jigs. Heavy drag WILL straighten hooks.

I'm using a Fenwick 6'9" medium lite spinning rod for Ned Rig. I've caught up to a 20" Largemoth with it. Works great.

I think a spinning rig works best, and many to choose from.. I would go with a Medium Rod and an extra fast tip. 6’6” to a 6’10”
