Using live Minnows on floats to catch Catfish. Am I wrong for doing this for it seems as though they like them active and floating any advice?

Close to the bottom helps
Caught a 37lb flathead using minnows crappie fishing a couple springs ago. Everything eats minnows.
Minnows will work. A wad of worms suspended under a 8 inch cork in the mid water column after dark works well surprising well also. During the day attach your live minnow a carolina slip sinker rig and fish it with enough leader that the minnow can swim a foot or so off the bottom. Good Luck, Garry
Cats are mainly bottom feeders.
If you want to use a live minnow under a bobber, clip the bottom part of the "Y" split of the tail fin, and put in the water. He will try to swim away only to cause a commotion while only being able to swim in a circle. When the motion stops, wait 2 seconds and set the hook. The minnow is buffet by now.

I've been to 2 County fairs & a cock fight but I've never seen an 8 inch cork. A cork that big would hold up a 1 pound sinker. How does one cast such a rig?
Big blue and channel cats swim close to the bottom, attach a 2 oz sinker to the end of your line make a loop about 18 inches up attach a swivel to it and attach about 12 inches of flourocarbon line with a 2/0 circle hook use shiners, shad or bream 2 to three inches long if they are bigger cut them in half hook them thru the tail or the eyes of using the head part and hang on that is a no fail recipe for catfishing lake eufala and lakes around that area. Good luck and keep on fishing.
It is a slip rig. They come in a gigar shape and are 6, 8. and 10 inch lengths. Great for suspending cut baits fot catfihing in the water columm>

Sounds like great advice will keep that in mind
8, 10, or 12 inch bobber used to suspend big bail
Thank you for sharing the picture of the bobbers. They really do work when night fishing and the cats are up in the water column. Garry

Hello 3312. You should be able to see the egg on my face all the way to Maryland. I had a red & white plastic cork on my brain when I read your post & could not imagine an 8 incher. Probably don't make them that size unless it's saltwater. However, even i use the long slip corks when after catfish right below the dams. I use them with cut bait & shad. Those corks are wonderful tools. I also use them for stripers on the river. First I catch a mess of rainbow trout then use the heads for striper bait. Works great. Some pilgrams use the whole trout but I think that's a waste as the stripers really go for just the head. Take care & tight lines.
