Man. That'd be super confusing on the west coast. We've got striped bass, then a good chunk of the other types of fish we have are rock fish and totally different.

In maryland you never hear them called striped bass , only rock fish or rock.

That is a salt water Striped bass, Striper, also known as a Rock Fish.
