After falling in love with ned rigs on a recent fishing trip I’ve been trying to get a little deeper into it and want to branch out to different colors. I did great with the classic green pumpkin but I was wondering what colors you guys like to use and what conditions you fish each color in.

Besides watermelon / pumpkin, I use red flake and black/blue
The Real Deal. Colors look very much like a minnow. Pretty much the color I start with in fresh water.
Something with watermelon or black.

Ned rigs resemble Caddis fly casings which are made up from sand from the body of water they live in. Anything that comes close to that will probably work. Every once in a while there is a debate started in the boat as to which color is best, when that happens I will load up a jig head with a short piece of Fluorescent pink plastic worm and the debate usually stops. I suspect that confidence and presentation have more to do with it. In my 78 years of fishing I have only witnessed a few cases of color preference and those were in very clear , and , very muddy water.
