Has anyone tried for trout yet around here? I tried a couple of weeks back but Cobbosee was still in winter.

Hi !
Welcome to the fishing stage;
one of your posts mentioned
central Maine, while another mentioned Rangely Lake - so
where are YOU in Maine ? Please update/upgrade your profile by including your location so that we
can better answer your questions !

Early-season fishing ? How far
are you willing to travel and would
you care to pay for a one-day ($15)
or three-day ($28) non-resident N.H.
license ? A good spot for early-
season trout/salmon fishing is the Androscoggin River, right along the Maine/N.H. border; it's also noted
for some pretty decent smallmouth
fishing, as well ! Just be very careful
if you're wading during run-off, as the current/water volume can easily sweep you down river - it almost got me back in '79 ! Oh, and if you catch/keep any, keep a sharp eye
out for bears; I always kept my
.357 mag. tucked into the top of my
waders when fishing that area !

P.S. - If you're wearing waders to fish, be sure to tie a belt or rope securely across your chest to keep them from filling up should you slip and fall !

Thanks for the nice description of the Androscoggin in NH! I would not try that one alone! Since I’m in Central Maine, I have a few closer wild rivers. They are unfortunately still too cold:(
