When and why to use Bait Caster or Spinning Reel. What conditions would affect which to use. I’m talking Fresh Water fishing. From boat or shore. Just wondering
Thanks
It depends on your comfort level. To me, spinning gear is more versatile. Interested to see what others say.

I use bait casters for everything except lite, ultralight fishing like crappie, bluegill etc
Back when I fished freshwater I didn't even own a spinning reel
I bought a couple BC to try out. Practicing with them. Haven’t fished yet. Do have a few Spinning outfits. So trying both out. Really get good advice from you all. Like this site. Thank You. 🌴😎🌴

I usually use bait casters for heavier stuff, jigs big topwater, spinnerbaits etc. Spinning rods for smaller crankbaits, smaller topwater, and all finesse stuff.
I agree with OJdidit and feel spinning reels are more versatile.
Bait casters do well for trolling, casting cranks, and bigger lures, but can also be used for vertical jigging, etc., but tend to be more on the medium to heavy application use.
Spinning equipment tends to be used more for finesse applications, but can be used for all.
I use both, but feel I use the spinning equipment in much more varied situations.
What Fredfish said is basically the same advice I would give.
I don't think from shore or boat makes much difference, although if you are in a confined area, spinning equipment might be more conducive to that.
It certainly is a personal preference, and most likely what you grew up with, but there can be a time and place for both.

Thanks Rock and and Fredfish. I’ve used Spinning all my life and you guys been very helpful. When I go fishing and use the BC I’ll be sure to bring my spinning gear also. Thanks again.

Oh yea definitely the pics. 🌴😎🌴
I use spinning for wacky rig senkos or skipping under docks bc for rest. If you learn to adjust a bc you can do alot with them. Good luck.
Even when you get used to bait casters you will still on occasion call your expensive reel a lot of bad names.
Now that I salt water fish the most I go with spinning outfits. You can get some very fine reels now and they will do everything. I still love my bait casters but mostly they collect dust. If you can afford both by all means get both but for versatility I would go with spinning. A lot of bass fishermen say bait casters are a lot more accurate and that may be so but all round I like the spinning outfits for either light duty or heavy duty.
