Question for ulterra owners

I'm getting ready to up grade my trolling motor to the ulterra. What I'd like to know is how much of the shaft actually is below the base? I can't find any info on this and by looking at pictures it seems that a fair bit stays above due to the collar.

Yes I know it's adjustable, what I don't know is how much of either the 45" or 60" shaft is below the base at it lowest point. I'm not sure if the 45" will be long enough.

When I got mine, the dealer said he mainly installs 60s and 72s. I fish mainly shallow bays, but will go offshore if it's flat. I have a bow mount 60. In the bays, it sits a little higher than halfway. At full thrust, there doesn't seem to be any bend in the shaft. Going offshore I run it deeper because of the waves. I have a flat, shallow running boat and there is no way I could use a 45.

Here is a basic guide in lengths. I think the numbers are a little off for the type of water I fish in. If you're in very flat water and your boat is low enough, you could probably get by with a 45 unless it's a hand control in which case I would go longer. I would want the controls at my hip

What kind of boat and what water do you fish in?

I have fished with an Ulterra for 3 years and love it. I always buy the longest shaft I can find. You never know what you might want to put it on at some later date.

I have a 72 on 20 foot flat bottom . when its calm I have about 20'' above deck .but when waves come up I sink it as low As water depth allows . better control and no cavitation when wave hits boat
