The guys at the fly shop only hooked me up with a leader with no tippet-do I need to run back to the store?

Assuming it’s a tapered leader you’re good to go. Eventually as you cut the leader back you’ll need tippet or if you want to fish more than 1 fly on your line at the same time you’ll need tippet for that.
I would say yes.Tippet is a lot cheaper than buying tapered leaders
Go back to the store and buy several sizes, 5x 6x and maybe a 7x.
