I am taking my nonfishing nieces, nephews and sisters to Galveston from Frisco and they have never fished. I have fished (badly) in freshwater lakes for bass and walleye. Any saltwater fishing tips or tricks for a newbie at saltwater fishing?

Ditto ! I, for one , would not attempt to 'school' novices in fishing if I were a novice myself !
They deserve to be instructed by someone who 'knows the ropes'
rather than another 'newbie'
who's still learning the basics, both from a learning and safety standpoint ! You can't teach what you don't know !
Go to local bait store. Buy some frozen shrimp. They will also have some prerigged hook and sinker set ups. Throw in water. With salt water there is almost always something that will bite. If they don't fish much it won't take much to entertain them. Oh also watch out for flying hooks.
Unlike they have expressed a strong interest in catching (killing and cleaning) some fish, I would stop off at the local fish market.
Sunscreen, broad brimmed hats and bottles of water is something to consider IMO.

It’s very slow catching on our Gulf Coast since our hard freeze that killed millions of fish including the popular game fish, Trout and Reds. Flounder fishing has been off too.
Hack 🇺🇸🍺🍺
kick in some funds and take em all on a guided tour boat who guarantees fish. Thats what i'd do, instead of investing time and money on tackle for all and then find out after 15 minutes they want to play video games instead.
"CROAKERS" I need not say more. Once they are hooked up, fling it and then occasionally jerk your rod. That will make them croak and the catch is on. Just watch out for the seagulls, they will try to steal your bait and you might even catch them. Enjoy.....
