Ever fish for trout in the Calabash River? How about there for Blueclaw crabs? Any good?

New to the forum. I am very close to the New River. I hear that it is the Speckled Trout fishery of the state. I am looking forward to dropping a few lines in to see what comes out.

Dropping in lines, here or in the river, I’ll be anxious to see what comes of it. Trout should be starting. I hope you do well enough to tell me about it.

Been in Waves, NC (OBX) for 2 weeks. Have not been able to fish much. The wind has been terrible. Got to go a few times. Caught mostly sea mullet (whiting), couple of croakers and a few blues. Also a couple of skates.

The nice thing about Waves is that although you are on an east facing beach you can go south to get to southern facing beaches where there are often different wind conditions. The sound side offers some great fishing as well. Wind is pretty much a constant at OBX and if you had ever stayed there when the wind died down you would wish for it back.

We have been vacationing here for 20+ years. I expect some wind but 20-30 mph with higher gusts is tough to fish in. But it still beats work.

No I’ve been fishing everyday in Wilmington using mainly gulp, nothing for me, when I have switched to shrimp (only when I’m desperate) bc I think it’s more fun to catch fish on artificial I have only been catching tons of croaker and some pinfish

What is the best time for the tide to fish falling or rising tide? in salt, I’m in Wilmington NC I am 23 years old I just want to catch drum or flounder or trout I do not have a boat so I’m pretty limited I’ve been trying to find places that aren’t over fished from shore hoping everything starts to pick up in a few weeks, also if water is clear should I use bright color lures or dark

Actually got a nice 24 inch striper on a soft sand flea, that's a first for me, I was after round heads.

They do like those sand fleas. Sand fleas are a good choice when want just chill out and relax by the beach; you don’t even have to worry about casting way out, different species are coming right into the wash looking for these little guys.

I live just 4 miles from High Rock crappie seem a little off but channel catfish are biting very good on chicken livers, shad and minnows. I normally start dropping juglines but have electric issues with my boat. But fishing boat docks at night fills our basket with nice eaters.
