I have read VERY little about Stripers and Spring migration this year. I'll appreciate any and all insight you provide.

Maybe earlier on the NJ side. IDK for sure, boats I read about were NJ based. Reported by Al Ristori who does a blog called tight lines.

Article in paper about that subject today. It seems when water hits 50° it starts spawning. Fish will come in to rivers then. But I think its all catch and release. At that time. In Mass we wait for herring run. Stripers follow them up coast

Thanks Major (I’m USN enlisted btw)...
According to my research:
The season for stripers in NJ is March 1 through December 31. For recreational striper fishing in NJ, the regulations allow for one fish measuring between 28 and less than 43 inches and one fish 43 inches or greater.

Kevin you’re run the right spot being at mystic islands. There’s been a good amount of really nice resident/ holdover bass caught in your area, bay and river, to include keeper size fish. The main migration is beginning thought we are still in the very early stages. The recent warm weather is helping things and next week looks to be very nice as well, water temps are rising. A few cows have been caught in Delaware Bay and off shore,so they’re on their way. The inlets will be hot very soon with both stripers and blues.Get out there and fish. Don’t forget winter flounder are being caught in the bays also and tog comes in on April 1st. Get some green crabs and get out on the jetty for a mixed bag.

That’s 28-38 inches is the slot now. Tags can be purchased for one fish 24 inches. To 28.

Oh , and those season dates March 1 - December 31 is for back bays rivers and creeks. There is no closed season in the ocean from beach to the 3 mile line.

Think circle hooks are mandatory if you're targeting stripers with bait in the surf in NJ.

The Major is correct. In line aka (non offset) circle hooks only when fishing for striped bass with bait.

To my knowledge the date is April 15th. In the hudson river north of the Washington Bridge I believe it is April 1. According to Follow the Migration bass are moving into spawn areas now. There are some schoolies around and hold overs in back bays in jersey and western new york shores. Some schoolies have been marked at Democrat Point off of fire island. Hope this helps.
