Well, I got the boat fired up & in the water early this year 👍
But I’ve been out 3 time now with a full range of baits but no bites yet☹️

The first time, the water temp was only 44 and since has gone up to 46 with day time temps of 40 to 60 and night temps still some days going down below 40.

What temp do the LM bass get moving, active & interested ?

When the water temp. gets around 45 and above the bass will go into their prespawn stage and start feeding, when it gets above 55 to 65 they'll start to spawn and become more active and when it gets above 75/80 their gonna slow down, move to deeper water and become more lethargic, hope that helps.

Thanks, Lee!
Since we’ve made it to 45 and still no bites, I was hoping that # was 50 degrees and I just hadn’t got there yet. Hopefully they make an appearance this weekend 🤞

They still have to eat, but will be considerably slower in the cold water. Fish very slowly!

Fish have to eat in all temps. 40 degree water slow way down. Jigs slow on bottom. Clear water natural colors, stained black and blue works good. Also suspending jerk baits are a killer this time of year. Jerk it down and let it set. Couple jerks and let it set. Will just have to keep trying different retrieves and pauses till you start getting bites. A real good time to catch a personal best.

Try Yum Dingers 5” in Elders Magic color. My go go bait to catch about every time. Fish deep water boulders and rocks in 8’-25’ of water. Lake Travis water temp is 63° 3/27/21.

We are have the same here in North Central California.
Been out 6 times in the last 3 weeks and have fished 3 different lakes by me don't feel bad , we have been fishing or butt off and only catching 2 to 3 bass.
Water is still cold here!!
Going out Tuesday, going to set up with a Ned rig you really have to present the bait slow 🐌 and the bite has been real soft use a medium light rod with fluorocarbon line.
Good luck fishing
Want 62 to 65 degrees

Hi Andy
Thanks for sharing. Good luck with your water temp and catch picking up👍
I went out today confidently fishing a better lake where we can often catch a dozen bass in a few hours. The water temp was up to 52 but still no bass.
The closest we got was a follower that wouldn’t commit behind a big Hud that I was swimming at that time ☹️
We tried to work and stick with big baits but we also threw jigs, cranks, jerks and chatterbait to try to break the startup drought. Neither worked.
But I do know that I still fish faster than I probably should for these colder temps - sigh !

Have have you tried the Ned set up it will make you 🐌 down! Also we have been using smaller grub baits.
We have been only catching them on the points! And that's only certain points. It is starting off a little different this year.
But last year our lovely Governor shut down our lakes !!! Because of cov19
So we missed the whole part of the season for bass!!
The lakes I fish up here when it gets going I've caught 30 bass a day mixture of Smallies , Kentucky bass and Large mouth.
Water Mellon Red is the color that we have been using and I take a black marking pen and put a black strip on part of the tail if I use a worm 🪱.
Hope this helps you!!
Good luck this year and have safe boating trip

Hi Andy
I have used my Ned rig gear in a long time & I’ll have to give that a try.
I’ve been trying to use new big baits to catch big bass but I’m losing thst patience after 4 days out ☹️
Theory says they should be moving towards the two shallow basins to spawn and I’ve been working the in between transition basin but next time out I’ll head to the shallow basins and try the Ned rig and flipping the bush lines. They just put the board back in the dam and the water will go back up
15 inches.
Are you fishing this weekend?

Yes going out Tuesday I'm waiting for the spon to come on we all need for them warm night 🌙's
To start so the water will warm up we are fishing 🎣in 35 to 45 feet of water and we are about 30 to 50 yards from the bank sometimes farther. And so far we are catching all hens.
And I'm only using 8lb test
The lake here are deep and drop off quickly!!
Good to smaller baits and work them slow. Wensday I change color patterns 8 times.! And the bite is very very soft..
Good luck fish hard and slow down the big bite is almost here!!
