Question about a Minn Kota terrova I- pilot

I just mounted a new terrova on my boat and as you guys know it comes with a heading sensor which I mounted. My question is after I pair the sensor and I calibrate it, so every time I use the trolling motor do I have to turn the sensor on or does it basically go into a sleep mode and it stays paired ? Its like when you find a Lifetime keeper. you hopefully stayed PAIRED. But then again there is the rest. I suggest staying PAIRED but it is just me.
