Sheila Piper Loc: Heppner, Oregon

Hi, I'm a resident of Heppner, Oregon. I am 50 years old and a new recipient of a kidney transplant in 2017. Just trying to get back out their into the great outdoors. Discovering places to fish in Eastern Oregon and hoping to catch a lot of fish this year. Bass, trout, steelhead, salmon and anything else. So excited to get fishing and learn a lot more. I have a new fly rod I'd like to learn and just happy to get back out in the great outdoors!!

Welcome to the Forum, SP. Good luck with your endeavors. It's always nice to have a woman on board, it keeps us crusty, old farts, honest, or at least somewhat honest. Good luck

Welcome to the out-liers club. Fished on the Elwah river for trout and steel head. Great river especially below the dam.

Welcome, fellow Oregonian !
I am in the southwest corner of our fair state, so, sorry I can't be of much help on specifics. Jeremy from Portland might have some ideas, idk. Glad to hear that you are doing well and getting back into enjoying the sport !

Welcome! I’m up in Kennewick so don’t fish Oregon but you’ve got some good opportunities near by I’d love to fish. Of course steelhead above McNary this fall primarily, watch the fish counts. Some of the biggest walleye ever caught were below McNary and John Day but is better from a boat. The upper reaches of the Umatilla and Walla Walla are good trout streams for fly fishing and of course bass along the Columbia. There are a couple lakes up in the Blues close by that are great trout fishing. You shouldn’t have any trouble keeping busy. Even over into the upper Grand Ronde.

I used to hunt turkeys in your area and occasionally found small ponds stocked
with smallmouths. I suggest you contact a Fish/Wildlife agent in your area for info.
