My Son turned me on to an App called OnX for locating access to public hunting lands for chasing various critters. He used it for an elk hunt in CO and we used it for an antelope hunt in SD. We also use it here in WI to scout for turkeys and deer. It shows boundaries of both public and private lands and also gives owners information as to whom to contact for permission. I see no reason why it would not be beneficial to those looking for fishing spots as well as access to waterways. It shows parking spots as well. You can mark waypoints, etc. I think it is worth checking out. I believe I paid $99 for a year for the national package as a Xmas gift for him, but I believe there are ways to minimize the cost for just your state. If Big Brother is watching us anyway, he may as well show us where we can go fishin?

Huntstand is about $30 a year, lot of applications with it, marking stands, blinds as well as wind direction each day, works good for me

I will check it out. My Son shares the OnX thing with me, where he sees a bunch of deer or turkeys, where he wants to look for shed antlers, where our stands and cameras are, etc. It can also track your route and give the distance you traveled as well as measure the distance that buck is away. I have to believe this can be helpful to us Fishin’ Fools, too.

I was turned on to OnX 6 years ago by a realtor who was showing me a 160 acres of timberland that I was in the process of purchasing. With it we could easily see where we where in relation to the property lines and corners.
I was sold on it then and have subscribed ever since. Being an avid and active outdoorsman, hunter, fisher, and owner of multiple large properties it is an invaluable tool. Especially when property boundaries are not defined by fences or roads.
The feature that I use the most is the “off grid” feature. It allows me to save the data for a defined area and then access it when I don’t have cell service by utilizing just the gps on your phone.
It’s a great product. I can recommend it highly.

Forgot to mention it could also save your butt from a trespassing ticket as whether a property is posted or not the law states it is your responsibility to know where you are at all times. It could also settle a dispute if you are approached by someone who may think you are trespassing when you are not. GPS does a great job to show your exact location.

😀👍 Yes, I have had to use it show a couple of “bird watchers” during deer season that they were actually trespassing.
The app shows my name along with our exact location inside of my property boundaries. They stopped arguing at that point. It wasn’t enough that they had crossed my fence and ignored my private property signs. Funny thing is that I probably would have given them permission if they had just asked.

It takes all kinds. Hard to understand how some don’t understand fences and signs. They were lucky they ran into you as it could have gotten ugly with someone else.

Turkey season is just around the corner!
Are you and your son gearing up to get after-um?
I’m taking my grandson out for the youth hunt the first weekend in April. I put one in his lap last year and he got busted before he could get his gun up. I’m hoping that he got educated by that old Tom and will be ready this year.

The kid’s tag is for the last week of April and mine is for the first week of May. I will try to call for him, but will take my Wife or Grandson along during my season as the kid has to work. Good luck to your Grandson!
