planning a vacation to the big lake. Looking for any info on the crappie bite for now thru mid April
After watching the series "Ozarks" you have a better chance of snagging a dead body.

That's true but watching the show got me thinking the Ozarks might be a nice vacation/fishing trip.

Hey Peter, send a PM to Eyecrosser with your questions. That's his home lake, and even though he's a Bass fisherman I'm sure he'll have some info for you. Good Luck and Tight Lines.

In 2007, over spring break, my son and I went down to our lake property near Climax Springs, in the Ozarks and fished for crappie. I don’t know just how many we caught, but we ate crappie, cooked over a campfire, till we were almost sick, and still brought home a half a cooler of filets on ice. There was a little ice along the banks and we were fishing (with permission) on a boat dock, between boats, about 15’-20’ deep, using minnows.
One of the most memorable weeks of my life. My son was a Jr. in high school then, and is now teaching HIS kids how to fish.
Being from the Ozarks, I watched the Netflix series, and dad-gum, if episode after episode I could not recognize many places, especially on the panorama shots. . .one boat dock, maybe, a little bit of town, and the water tower.
Then I read most of it was filmed on a lake in Georgia. . .I've never hooked a corpse of any species on the real Lake of the Ozarks
I was just out there this weekend. We have a place up by MM 56 and water was 45 degrees so nothing yet. Ton of Spoon Bill Fishing going on.
So many places for Crappie and so little time. Huge lake and I would avoid the lower Mile Markers.
I will keep you posted as I will be out again next week. They will start hitting some time in April probably.
Giddy Up!
she is adorable-she must take after her mom.

Thanks no fear. I just made reservations for the week of April 12. Figured the lower lake would be cleaner so I'm staying at the 2 mile marker. Maybe thats a mistake. Please keep me updated
headed down to Fl. to do a little tarpon, bone, reds, snook, and trout fishing. good luck.

Not sure about cleaner. Big Ships down by the Dam. Here is a picture of the Map followed by a satellite of down by the Dam and another one by Mile Marker 50 (Big Dicks Halfway INN).
Way more open space
Glad to help and will keep you posted on the fishing...

Thanks again. I have a navionics chip in my hummingbird helix 10. Should be able to navigate ok. Is the lake rising or falling . We are fishing middle of the week. Should avoid the ship traffic

Middle of the week is always quieter. Right now the water is at the lowest point of the year. Levels will continue to rise with the Spring Storms and they try and have it up to season high by the first day of summer. Keep posted on water levels here:
https://www.ameren.com/missouri/residential/lake-of-the-ozarks/lake-levels-and-operationsHelix will be a huge help and I use the SmartStike Chip. Accurate for LOA. Finding the hard flat bottoms is important if they are spawning by the time you get here. Might still be early as it has been a cold winter.
Hope this helps...
