Hi, FFF !
Welcome to the fishing stage;
where are you in N.H. ? As a former 'Granite Stater' (grew up
in Manchester), I know the state fairly well; that said, I've not had much experience fishing the Connecticutt River, but I used
to hit the streams right about
ice-out, as long as there was enough open water to toss a lure/bait, usually right about
the time they start stocking
(late-March to mid-April) !

As you're asking these questions, I'm guessing that you are either a new arrival to your area or have just recently taken up fishing ! If
you could pinpoint your location
in your profile, you would
probably get more/better info from local (and formerly local) members who are familiar with your area ! Meanwhile, good luck and tight lines when you do get out there !

Addendum to last post: whether you're a shore or boat fisherman, one good source of fishing information is the N.H. Fish & Game website; they have bathymetric charts (underwater topo map) for over 600 lakes/ ponds in the state, with locations, directions, and species for each
lake/pond listed ! Another good source of fishing info is the website 'All About Fishing' (aafishing.com); their fishing
info covers each state, some
of the better/more productive lakes/ponds/streams in each,
and also which water holds
which species so that you can narrow your search according to your target species !

Cold or warm, the fish gotta eat. Look for coves along the banks where there's less current. Bass and Pike like to ambush the bait. Trout also look for current breaks where they don't have to work so hard to eat. Good luck and remember,We Love Pictures!

If you're responding to someone in particular, select "quote reply" (like I did) and then there's no doubt who you're talking to.

Hi. Harry from Amherst NH here. I fish the lower part of the Connecticut in the area between Brattleboro and the Vernon Dam. I haven't fished this early in the season since the ice has just cleared, and the water is still really cold. I have a link to a USGS Conn. river monitoring station that in Northfield, and as of today, the water temp is around 36 degrees which is a little cold for my tastes. But, let us all know if you go out and what you catch. If I decide to go out, I'll do the same. Good luck.

Harry
