Heading to the Texas Gulf Coast this Summer. Since I dislike burning in the hot Texas sun I thought about taking a couple party boat outings. The family can enjoy the beach. Was wondering about what rod and reel would be good on such an outing? Any Suggestions? Gerry

Here and everywhere I ever went on a Charter Boat all equipment except rain gear was provided by the boat.

Charters provide gear here too,but Party Boats do NOT. They will rent you some well worn rods and reels, usually only half full of line.
It depends what you're going fishing for, I have no idea what you're after down there.
Up here they do "Bottom Fish "trips, which includes Porgys and Sea Bass. Fluke trips. Striper and Bluefish trips.
The ideal gear is different for each type of fish.
I will say most favor heavier than optimum tackle. When you have 25-60 people fishing at once, they want the fish hauled in quickly. Most don't allow light tackle, because it causes massive tangles, and ruins the day for all involved.
The best thing to do is contact the Boat(s) that you're considering and ask what their requirements are.

Hate to break the bad news to you but you’re gonna burn on the boat too. No escaping it. Bring the sunscreen and plenty of water and have fun.

After checking some of our boats, things have changed due to the virus. No more $30-35 dollar per person,75+people on the boats. Before the virus, that was the going rate, $10-15 dollars for a rod rental.
Now 30-35 people MAX @100-110 dollars per person, rod included. Many of the regulars bring their own anyway.

Beer works but since I drank my quota years ago I bring plenty of water. Never brought a banana on board and wouldn’t be afraid to but as far as fruit goes there’s nothing more refreshing than a navel orange that’s been in the ice chest all day.

There’s party boats(also known as head boats) on the NJ coast. The tackle they supply is less than optimum for catching fish, whether it’s stripers, fluke, sea bass or whatever. If you’re going to “get into it”, I’d purchase my own appropriate gear for the species you’re after.

If you are going to fish at 100 feet or more rent the electric reels if they have them. You can get worn out real quick reeling up those heavy weights and fish if your lucky. Many party boats have them.
