Im looking to buy a new bait caster but I don’t know much about good brands to buy and what not. I just bought a quantum spinner rod reel combo, but I want something for the heavier lures. Going on a big fishing trip with all the guys in the family next week. I’ve been trying to read up on fishing rods and lures and what not (really only done live bait fishing) but nothing beats asking the anglers yourself! Thanks for any tips!

What is your budget? Some possibilities are scary expensive! If you give the experts a spending cap figure, these guys can help you out.
If you can swing a hundred bucks
St croix Triumph is a dandy rod
Also in the same price point , the Shimano Exage is a surprisingly good stick.
I’m a die hard Loomis and St Croix guy but if I had to buy just one without brand consideration it would be the Shimano Exage based on performance overall.
If you don’t want to spend this much. Berkley lightning rods are probably the best performing budget rod
If you want something inexpensive and can survive a train crash during an earthquake followed by an avalanche. Get an Ugly stick
I don't buy expensive stuff. Can't afford it and to much good stuff out there for way way less. I got a new casting rod a couple years ago off Amazon. Berkley Cherrywood. Around $20 and it's got it's share of cats! Big difference between inexpensive rods and really expensive rods. Slam a door on them and the inexpensive one won't bother you near as much as the expensive one! :-)

True that......I fish the local piers mostly for Spanish mackerel and recently bought a one piece 9' Crowder Deluge spinning rod that was $430. Didn't use it for 2 months, was too afraid I'd whack it on the pier and destroy it, finally took it out and absolutely love it but I'm very careful with it unlike my other rods. I have an 8' Shimano Teramar that I've beaten to near death and it just won't die
