Spinner Guy Transitioning to Baitcaster

Hey Guys,

I've used a spinner my whole life and want to transition to a baitcaster for a little bit more control (also just because I want to know how to use one, its fun to learn new things, etc.). I fish a few times a week in saltwater in SoCal (typically off docks/jetties). I'm looking for something that is user friendly, will last and is somewhat affordable for a first time baitcaster user.

I've narrowed it down to these 2:

Abu Garcia Revo X

Daiwa Fuego

Would love input and opinions or even other recommendations!

Thanks in advanced!

Probably better off going with a saltist or saltiga if you're going to be fishing saltwater.

None of the above unless I'm missing something and those are saltwater rated. I use Daiwa Tatula's for freshwater bass fishing all the time and love 'em, (Feugo is similar minus the T-wing system, so it should be a solid reel as well) but I wouldn't trust them around salt. If you want the low profile baitcaster style, but for saltwater, check out the Lews Inshore line, Shimano Tranx, Diawa Lexa, Abu Revo Inshore, etc. I use conventional reels for saltwater boat fishing, but my surf/inshore fishing is all spinning gear, then for bass fishing I almost exclusively use baitcasters.

if your going to be fishing saltwater you might want more line capacity than a lo pro. Check out Abu's beefer round baitcasters

I have this one. Left hand baby match your spinning gear

eh, these are okay for salt, but not great.

Upgrade the bearings and sure, but at that pricepoint, just get a different reel.

I own the same reel.

Of those two, Fuego by a mile. It has a far better braking system to learn on.

Salt? Get a Cardiff, Super duty wide, or daiwa costal. Or just leave those reels you want to get for freshwater.
