I have been using Mitchell reels for the past 50 plus years. Time for a change?
I’ve been looking at/considering the Pflueger President for the past few months, but am still drawn back to the Mitchell.
Opinions?

I’m also a Shimano fan.
But the question of Mitchell vs Pfluger , I’d say you can’t go wrong with the Pfluger President.
It performs well above its price point.
I have heard very good things about these reels.

Go with the pflueger but you may want bigger than a 20 unless it's for an ultralight, you want a 30 or a 35 for bass or bigger

Have no experience with the new Mitchell’s, had plenty of old 300’s though. Own several pfluger presidents and in my opinion are the best reels for the money.

Also a long-time Mitchell guy. Switched to a Pflueger 30 President last year. FANTASTIC reel! No comparison. I'm not going back. This year I am going to buy myself a 35. I catch trout in the +20" range and the 35 is perfect for that.

I am also a Shimano guy and prefer them, but I do have some Pflueger reels too (and they are good). But I grew up on the Garcia Mitchell 300 (I still have mine from when I was a kid, and more importantly I have my Dad's too - I will NEVER part with those). - They both still work quite well honestly. We had a couple Garcia Mitchell 320's also, but they didn't survive my brother's and me.

The current Mitchell reels are made by Pure Fishing, as is Pflueger, and the Pflueger is a MUCH better reel in my opinion.

I agree with Lee that the size 20 (and even size 25) are really ultralight or light reels, and the size 30 might be what you want in the President. But to answer your question, I think you would be impressed at what you get for the money with a Pflueger President.

The Mitchell 320 was smaller than the 300, so if you are looking for a smaller reel, you likely want either the 25 or the 30, but the 20 would be for an ice fishing rod or an ultralight spinning rod. The 30 is still is a pretty compact reel and might be a good crossover from the 320 Mitchell. I have a couple size 30 Pflueger reels and find them a great reel for walleyes and smallmouth bass.

I am all for a guy buying a new reel! Let us know what you do and how you like it!

Rockhound, the first reel I ever bought was a Mitchell 300. Must have been in about 1970. I was 16 years old and I think it was the first thing I ever truly saved up to buy. It was $16.99 at KMart. I used that reel until I was 37 years old! But finally I couldn't buy parts for it any more, so I had to buy a new reel. I thought at that time (early 90's) that the Mitchell reels had lost a lot, so I bought something else. Since that time I've had a bunch of cheap reels. The best one I found was a Quantum, but it didn't last too long. Then I tried the Pflueger, and I have been a believer ever since. By the way, have you ever been out to Utah for Rock hunting? That's my other hobby. We have some fantastic areas here.

I have not been to Utah, but it sounds fantastic, and is on my bucket list. Unfortunately, my nickname of Rock Hound doesn't have anything to do with a hobby, but rather a boating mishap when a friend of mine was driving my boat and put it on a huge underwater boulder in Canada. Everyone was OK, even the boat was fine, but the name stuck with me for some reason (boat owner)!

My vote is for the Pflueger President. My oldest one is 26 years old and still smooth and reliable. I clean and lube all my reels every winter.

You will not go wrong by going with the Pflueger President Reels. I have 4 of them in various sizes. Smooth rolling and great drags on them. I also use Shimano and Daiwa reels. For the money, you cannot beat the Pflueger Presidents. Read the majority of reviews on them and you will know why people love them.
I grew up using Mitchell 300 with my Dad. It was before Garcia bought them out and I have a couple of those old reels in storage :-) Love and cherish those reels. My first fish were caught off of them. But you can't use them forever ;-)
So yes, I would at least try the President Pfluegers and let us know what YOU think :-)

You won't go wrong with the Pflueger. Also look at the LEWS I also bought 1 last year very good reel.
