Years ago I loaded just mono.....about 100 yds or so of about 10 lb.......now 4 yrs later I see many comments about braid.....whats is the suggested sequence and percentage of materia to load a reel today? I expect to be using a Daiwa or Shimano reel on a rod about 7 ft for bass....some crappies ......walleye....etc....fresh water stuff.........

Not exactly sure what your askin. If you're gonna put braid on or take mono off or what.
Sequence and percentage ... not sure I follow.
What are you asking again

HA, great minds think alike.
I fill the reel with braid. 20lb on spinning reels and 30 on baitcasters. I use a leader about the length of the rod. After a few tie-ons and the leader shortening I tie on a new one.

Yea I think we responded at same time
I put on some cheap mono as backing (about 40-50 feet or so . . . maybe more for a bigger spool) so I don't have fill an entire spool full of expensive braid, then I tie a uni-to-uni knot and then spool the rest with braid, and then I tie in a fluorocarbon leader at the business end depending on what I am fishing for.
I fish mainly for walleyes and smallmouths, but do sometimes use the same rods and reels for crappies. Having a braid main line (I use 10 lb. braid on most of my reels and 15 lb. on a few of them) with a fluorocarbon leader allows you to use the same reel and just change out the leader if you want to go light for crappies, etc. I typically have 8 or 10 lb. fluorocarbon as my leader, but if I want to fish crappies, then I just put 4 lb. on as my leader and I don't have to change reels, etc. You can also use a mono leader if you prefer.
It does give you a lot of options if you use a braid main line with either a fluorocarbon or mono leader if you are going to use the same gear for different applications - even on the same day.
I get ya. Since braid lasts so long(I use a line conditioner), I don't sweat the cost of the extra braid. I'm with you on the versatility of braid to leader. I can fish any species with all my reels. If the bass aren't biting I can go light for bluegill or crappie, or straight to braid for fishing mats and grass.

Ok....i poorly explained my question but Rock hound and a few others caught my drift.....i never used braid on a spinner before.....but that sequence makes sense.....considering loading with braid ....about 10 to 15 lb.......then tie in a leader of 4 to 10 lbs for the proper weight for whatever my fishing is at the time........many Thanks....sorry for confusing some of you....
You got it. I carry 4, 6, 10, and 15lb. leader material with the option of going straight to braid. I've found that covers pretty much all my situations.
still can't figure why so many guys think you need 50# test to catch a 50# fish. I fish 4# braid for freshwater, have caught carp over 20 # (no I don't fish for cats). saltwater fishing, under IGFA tournament rules , we can only use 30# . I have over 11 blue and striped Marlin over 200# on 30# test, and a 220# Mako on 10# test. (no I wasn't targeting Mako's he just grabbed it). Your rod/reel and patience will land the fish. Don't look at your reel as winch to bring the fish in. Just look at the world records on flyrods 25# plus fish on 2# tippets. You want to meat fish? use a net!

Ozzie, when you're taking your mono off, leave about 1 layer of mono on the spool. Tie the braid to the mono, and then fill your reel. That way the braid won't slip on your spool.
