Slip bobbers on braided line

I saw another tip I had to share. If you fish deep water using braided line with slip bobbers, add a second bobber stop knot to keep your stop from slipping. I have had this problem and will be trying this out this Spring for walleyes.

Yes using 2 can help. If you can tie your own with tough line they will usually stay put a little better than pre-tied types.

I have not tried to tie my own as I buy the pre-tied ones in the pack with the beads. Some are good, some are not. The rubber ones wear out as they go through the guides and they slip, too. If you adjust them too much, they wear out.
How do you tie them?

For deep slip floats , I always used 10-12 pound mono and tie a uni knot to the braid. Pull it tight and trim tag close.
Stays put pretty good and goes thru the eyes ok. Can adjust with a little effort

I will give that a shot, thanks. I knew the pre-tied knot resembled a uni knot, but wasn’t sure if that was what it is.

Bobber stops are tied with a basic nail knot. A fly Tiers clipper and slotted knot tier makes this easy but since you want bulk you can tie a nail knot by just making a loop with another piece of material like heavy fly line backing. The loop starts on the left or right along the base line and then loops up and around laying along the baseline in the other direction. Then pass either tip through the loop and around the base line and the base of the loop several times and draw tight. This only differs in that one line is outside coils instead of both loop lines being inside the coils. It still works. Just slightly bulkyer.

It really depends on how deep you want to fish. In my case I use it to fish steelhead along tye Columbia and Snake behind the dams in relatively slack water. Since they cruise close to shore and not deep I’ll fish anywhere from 4’ to 15’. Usually 6’.

As deep as you want. If the line below the stop will pass through the bead, you’ll be good to go. I have used them in 35’ with no issues.
