Clarification for release policy of injured fish

Hey everyone,

I recently got my fishing licence and I just wanted to clear something up before making a mistake. If a fish swallows a hook or ends up too injured to live long if released, are you supposed to keep the fish or let it go somehow?

Thanks

If a fish is hurt to where it won't live you keep it, it's part of your limit

Check your state's regulations.

If you catch a fish that you are NOT allowed to keep you are NOT allowed to keep it. If you catch a fish that can not be released unharmed you hope it is one your allowed to keep and you should keep it. The other thing a Game Warden may do is come ask to see your lure or bait. If you are targeting a fish that is not allowed to be kept and game warden sees bait and lure that is used for the fish that is illegal to target currently your going to wish you were not so dumb.

Don't forget how big the Game Wardens Binoculars are. Airplanes radios and all sorts of things that will make it hard to try and convince them you are smart.

:)

Many have. Then they get to Court. The Judge might be the Dad of the GW. When you sign your fishing license it means you know or agree to follow all rules and laws. I have seen people fishing and doing dumb stuff. Before you know it Sheriff was tapping the person on the shoulder. It was hard not to laugh.

As one of the person’s stated you signed the license so you are taking the responsibility to fallow all the rules and regulations I suggest that you get a fishing regulations handbook and read it very carefully

What all the other guys said.
Also if you have to release an injured fish that you’re not allowed to keep more than likely a bird of prey or an animal will end up eating it so it won’t be going to waist.

I don't know of any location that allows you to keep out of size limit fish even if injured by redemption

Just food for thought. If you know an illegal fish is going to die, take the time to remove the swallowed hook before releasing it. Otherwise that hook is likely to end up in the stomach of another creature and on down the line until it rusts out.

If you are fishing in catch and release water use barbless hooks if you can’t remove hook safely cut the line. If you keep the fish expect a fine.

If it is a fish you are allowed to keep (Big Enough) keep it, if not release it with out remorse some critter will be happy to eat it.
