Found at a tag sale for $5, wondering if it's any good? Daiwa Capricorn.
Not sure about elsewhere in the world but Diawa is fairly big in Scotland being a Scottish company and their stuff is usually quite good, can’t speak for their spinning reels personally as I have never owned one but I’ve had a few fly reels and spinning/fly rods and they were all good.

Uh, is Scotland laying claim to the Japanese islands now?

It's solid. Especially for 5 bucks. You'll find that just about anything Daiwa makes that costs over 50 bucks new is very good quality.

That’s been my experience as well. Granted I tend to buy their premium stuff, but when I occasionally bought a cheap item from them it was always overbuilt and well worth the money (e.g., their Mad Dragon carp rods).

Ah, never realised the original company was founded in Japan, we have a subsidiary here called Diawa Sports that run out of Scotland, I knew the products were largely manufactured in Japan but never knew the original company was Japanese.

There a little over 10 years old now, and sold for $70ish. They’re solid reels (the spinning model was top notch). Might not have the same specs as today’s models...but if it’s in good shape, it’ll be completely useable.

Yeah it looked essentially brand new and barely used.

I'd fish it.

I bought a Diawa spinning rod and reel combo probably 20 years ago, maybe longer. I have used it as my main fishing equipment and have had no problems with it what so ever. I would buy Diawa again without hesitation. I would suggest that you got yourself a bargain. Happy Fishing.............
If you don't want to buy I would be more than happy to buy it. The Daiwa reels I have are great and have been using them for over 15 yrs. and I put a lot of wear and tear on equipment. I don't abuse it but I do fish a lot or as much as I can after I get a project off my wife's honey-do list checked off. lol It is what it is and she encourages me to go after I get done.

Daiwa is a Japanese Brand.......Diawa? R U Guys sure it is a Diawa? or Daiwa?.....There is a big difference.
If the Baitcaster shown in the picture is $5 and it is a Daiwa....Man, buy it quick!.
If it is a Diawa,......(maybe I will have to pass) ..or just buy it it for the heck of it, $5 is not much.,,
That is just my take.....Tight Lines.

Most everything made in Japan since the early days after the big war is good quality. Japan was the first country to buy the Deming Quality Control system. Hey, as a result, Japan rose from ashes to become the worlds second largest economy in the period 1950–1960. They are responsible for the US car makers to get their quality in line.
I don't think I have EVER fished ANYTHING Daiwa that was not a terrific value and quite dependable.
thats a pretty baitcaster and you should have a lot of fun catching fish with it. Good luck, i have a few daiwa reels that are in good shape and some are 40 years old. I use them mostly in saltwater and they do need rinsing and cleaning after every trip. In fresh water, not so much. I hope you bought it at that tag sale, and if you did, good luck bryanova
