I’m new to trout fishing and was wondering if anyone knows any good spots. Every suggestion is appreciated.

Hey - I live in Philly. Your best bets in this part of PA are the Little Lehigh in Allentown, the Tulpehocken in Reading, and Valley Creek in Valley Forge (VERY difficult stream).

Depending on where you live in Bucks you might also consider getting an NJ license and fishing the Pequest, Muskenetcong, and South Branch of the Raritan.

Feel free to PM me - I'm always looking for someone to fish with.

Why do you say valley creek is difficult?

Tons of pressure, skinny water, educated fish.

What is the fishing like in PA? Are there any salmon runs or is it mostly just trout?

The fishing in PA is AMAZING. However, the best water tends to be privately managed and that's why it remains the best water. As for salmon runs, look to the northwest corner of the state - streams emptying into Lake Erie. I caught one salmon up there, probably 25", while I was fishing for steelhead. Hiring a guide and paying for access to great water (via the guide or by joining a club) is worth it if you can swing it. If that's not in your budget, read up on the limestone streams of central PA and start exploring.

Live and fish in PA. The best water is certainly NOT privately managed. We’re blessed with a lot of access to water and some solid state owned land open to the public.

Tulpehocken creek is my go to. Looking to check out the Lehigh sometime this year.

I'm a big fan of the Tully myself. If you're interested in some company let me know.

I live and work in Bucks.

Right now it’s still early enough in the season that stocked streams still hold fish. Check out Neshaminy Creek for stocked fish. Also check out the Tohickon.

If you’re not super far from Philly, I use to fish the Wissahickon creek. The Wissahickon Valley Park is a really nice area. They stock it a bunch and they usually last into summer. There’s also some bass and massive carp cruising around too.
