When fishing a jig, do you actually feel the bite like you do with a shaky head or does it just get really heavy, swim, etc.? Im just now getting into jig fishing and I have absolutely no idea how to go about it. Thanks!

Probably not what you’re looking for but it really depends how you’re fishing the jig and the type of jig. Really you’ll experience all different types of bites, the biggest piece of advice I can give is pay attention to what you’re making the jig do, and if it seems to be doing something odd, swing for it. Like if you’re dragging the jig and suddenly you can’t feel it anymore, a fish likely picked it up. If you have a bit of slack and suddenly it tightens, it’s probably a fish swimming away with it. Bites will also be different for a swim jig than say a flipping jig.

The best thing you can do is watch your line and pay close attention to the action that you are intentionally imparting on the jig, and anything that seems a bit weird or off, swing on it.

One of the best descriptions of a jig bite I’ve read in a long time. It still bothers me how many times I should have set the hook when I first started jig fishing and didn’t. Hooksets are free, if something is different like was said above; swing on it like you mean it.

Pretty much this. I fish a jig quite often and there are days where I couldn't even feel them pick up the jig and I'm pitching jigs on a Megabass Destroyer USA FMJ with 20lb abrazx. It's my most sensitive rod I use at the moment and several times throughout the day I didn't notice the jig was just sitting in the bass' mouth or they were slowly swimming off with it. I only noticed because I was either watching my line or only noticed when I tried to work the jig and felt some dead weight to it. But there have been times where they completely slam it and its just game on and set the hook.

I know it's not the answer you're looking for but you'll just have to fish the jig often and pay attention.
