Went out looking for crappie and the wind was howling, did bump into a few nice bass. Wendy banks with a crank bait and the fish were dirt shallow. Shallow flats on or near points, 45* water temp.

I'm also jealous! I have gone out the past two days, only to be skunked! All the yrs fishing, I have only been skunked once, now twice in two days. Not the only one, yesterday, I had to wait my turn to launch, with so many people I thought maybe I'm in the right place. NOPE, and 50 or more boats came in, and none had a hit. I even set out noodles to catch a few cats, the bait was still on. Looking at the fish finder, I bounced my lure on a fish, and it just swam away. One of the guys has rigged his boat for crappie tournaments. He fished with 8 lines in the water with shiners, not one bite!! Today I went to another bayou, before the gators come out, and only saw 5 others, and no fish, and with the noodles, a repeat of yesterday.

That's the way our day went we found three huge schools of Crappie. You could see the them on live scope, swim up to a bait look at it and swim away. When the water stained from the wind the bass started hitting.

Way to adapt Ivey, and a nice healthy looking fish. Surprised they were up that shallow at that temperature. I'll keep that in mind if our water ever turns to liquid.

Water temp was 45*, air temp was 72* and sunshine. The shallow flats were warming so the fish were there so they could too.

Ivey. How long is the bite on? I am probably headed east in a matter of weeks. I will be in NO HURRY to race home. But once I get home I will be fishing in NO HURRY the boat. The Meet and Greet is Cancelled but I never cancel unless emergency changes my plans. I will probably be in Central US and West before long.

Hook em and EAT em. Fish ....

it'll be on and off hear till thru spring now, the bass are wanting to spawn just not warm enough. two of the bass I caught yesterday were full of eggs, I put them back but they were fat. As the nights warm just a little it will push them closer and closer to spawning grounds. The largemouth will be on bed here when the water gets up between 60 and 65. The warmer days, like yesterday will find them shallow close to or on spawning flats. They'll move in and out with warm spells till the weather allows the spawn. The flats we caught fish on yesterday were on secondary points with flats, points leading into coves where they will spawn later. They'll move on back in the coves once the weather stabilizes but they are staging. We didn't try yesterday but a jerk bait is prime time right now. until the temp gets above 55*. My shoulder ain't gonna let me use a jerk bait this year it's still sore from the surgery, 1 Month today I think. But if I could jerk I'd have done that yesterday but I can use a spinning outfit so till then I'll chase the Crappie to stock the freezer for this year.

Why the crappie we found wouldn't bite is a puzzle to me. There were massive schools we could see on the live scope but we only caught 3 that didn't measure.
Tim's can be a fickle lake the water on my end is very clear now and I'm thinking that may have affected the Crappie bite yesterday, since they are low lite feeders and the sun was bright yesterday, could probably go back after dark and wear them out. The last mess we caught were in stained water in the shade of a bridge. There's big schools roaming and can be caught with a bobber or trolling, the wife and I love to see that bobber drop so that's how we fish them

Nice fish Ivey, they were shallow, trying to enjoy the warm water. Keep after them and good luck with that shoulder. You may feel completely different in another 8 weeks as the 12 week mark is a plateau if you keep up with your PT. The Doc told me I would be playing golf by June 1 after I had mine replaced and to be honest...on Memorial Day I thought he was full of it. On June 6 I broke 80 with little to no pain.

Thanks OJ, I just finished my weight and elastic band PT for the morning and I'll hit it again this afternoon. It feels pretty good but still some twinges and soreness, too the right a good 3 to 4 months to get back into good shape. Maybe I'll fishing my bait casters in a month or so.
