New to saltwater fishing and I’m going beach fishing in Ventura county this weekend. Any bait tips?
Not going for anything in particular, just want to catch something!
(Probably down closer to Mugu, Hueneme, or Oxnard areas. California. Thanks for the advice!)

Surf perch. Easy? Grab some Berkley sand worms or sand crabs. They work as well as the real stuff.

If your surf fishing, i had good results with salted clam off jersey shore during the fall..for what its worth.
I just went to Point Mugu a few weeks with a fishing buddy on the opposite side of Oxnard by the cliff. We caught all sorts of fish. Cabozon, Opel eye, and buttermouth perch. We where using fresh muscles on a dropperloop rig. Actually he caught most of the fish that day. If you do go just be careful going down the trail take your time. Look at the surf conditions before you go 1-3 min surf and tide going out.
If you dont want to fish near rocks try the surf with camel sand worms from berkley use a Carolina rig light action 1/2 oz with bead and 4-8 pound leader about 2 ft with a number 4-10 size hook. I have caught nice size surf perch at McGrath State Beach. Cast in the surf about 50 ft or more wait and reel slowly. 2 hours before high tide and a few hours after works the best sometimes.
Best of luck
